Las Vegas Wash Panoramic Photos
Photographs are valuable tools for us to understand and describe our environment because it is complex
and undergoes periodic changes, with those changes occasionally being drastic. For this reason, a
photographic documentation study was initiated to develop a permanent record of on-the-ground activities
in the Wash. Photographs are used to monitor physical alterations resulting from flood events and progress
of revegetation activities in certain areas, as well as gradual differences that occur in the Wash over time.
This study was initiated in the spring of 2000. For the first three years of the project,
photographs were taken twice a year (March and September) but are currently taken only on an annual basis.
Using a Global Positioning System (GPS), permanent photographic points have been established and they are
navigated back to each year.

Currently, there are 22 sites that are photographed. These sites include Las Vegas Bay delta , revegetation sites,
bank stabilization sites, areas where there are and where there will be grade control structures, and other areas of interest.
A database of photographs has been developed and is
available for viewing through this webpage. The map above indicates where photographic sites are located.
The sites are grouped into five separate regions. By selecting a highlighted section you will be taken to a larger map of that area. After choosing a region,
you may select an individual site to view the panoramic comparisons.
