Wetlands Videos 2000 and 2001
During
the year 2000, videos and still pictures were captured once a
month to document the new construction and plantings at the Demonstration
Weir. In 2001 progress was charted every other month for the first half of the year to show
the changes at this now well established site.

Restoring wetlands takes a great deal of time and effort. The work begins
with the construction of an erosion control structure. This structure
must be very strong, because desert flash floods can send a devastating
torrent of water down the Wash. Once the erosion control structure
is in place the flow in the Wash is slowed. At that point, the
planting of well-adapted vegetation such as willows, cottonwoods,
bulrush and cattails enhance the structure - these plants can
grow quickly and sink strong roots.
