What is the Wash?
Conserve Water

Water Conservation

With just four inches of rainfall in the Las Vegas Valley a year, water is a limited and precious resource. Thus, Southern Nevada has adopted a responsible water conservation/efficiency strategy to ensure the region has enough water to meet its needs. Because residential customers use 65 percent of the valley's water supply, Southern Nevada's conservation success centers around the efforts of homeowners and business owners to reduce water waste. The Las Vegas Wash Coordination Committee supports the conservation efforts of the local water purveyors because the increased water use in the valley results in increased discharge into the Wash. Responsible water use will assist in the long-term goals of managing the issues concerning the Wash.

How much water does your household use?

A typical family of five averages about 27,000 gallons a month, or about 326,000 gallons a year. Residential water use represents 65 percent of all water usage in Southern Nevada. Nearly two-thirds of that water is used outdoors to water landscapes, wash cars, etc.
