Other Considerations

Pabco Grade Control Structure, Summer 2000
There are many variables to consider when stabilizing the Wash. It is important to understand the characteristics and amounts of the flows and slope of the Wash. It is also extremely important to understand the soils throughout the Wash, what vegetation is necessary for bank stabilization and what activities will impact water quality (positively or negatively). The following variables are being considered throughout the engineering process of stabilizing the Wash:
- Wastewater & Urban Flow
- Flood Discharge & Elevation
- Subsurface Flow & Seepage
- Topography, Soils, Geology
- Slope Aspect
- Alignment
- Sediment Transport
- Vegetation
- Water Quality
- Wildlife Protection/Enhancement
- Hydraulic Equilibrium
- Changing Conditions
- Ownership & Access
- Impacted Areas
- Design / Permitting
- Visual Protection
- Recreation Needs
- Implementation Cost
- Maintenance Cost
- Funding
- Constructability
- Maintainability
- Risk
- Public Involvement
