Project Funding
Funding for Las Vegas Wash Coordination Committee (LVWCC) activities primarily comes from the Las Vegas Valley Watershed Advisory Committee. In addition, federal, state and local grants play an important role. LVWCC member agencies, as well as the LVWCC itself, seek out grants to pay for specific projects.
We would like to thank Senator Harry Reid and Congresswoman Shelley Berkley for their tremendous support of the Las Vegas Wash. Their continuing efforts on the federal level to gain attention for this project have been extremely helpful.
Reid and Berkley Chart Course to Protect Water Quality in Southern Nevada
At the Lake Mead 2000 Forum on March 17, 2000, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) announced their newly drafted legislation that will enable a combination of federal agencies to take an active role in restoring the Las Vegas Wash and the valley's wetlands to ensure the quality of our drinking water for years to come. The special legislation supports the LVWCC and the Las Vegas Wash Comprehensive Adaptive Management Plan by directing the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of the Army and Department of Interior to participate constructively in the implementation of the Las Vegas Wash Restoration and Lake Mead Water Quality Improvement Project.

| Watch Our Wetlands Grow Erosion Control Structure and Wetlands Development Project: The Watch Our Wetlands Grow program is an opportunity for the public to see real progress in their efforts to save the wetlands. Photos are being taken from the same vantage point over several months to show a "time lapse" view of the wetlands restoration. |

| Wetlands Interpretive Area: Nature Center water quality monitoring and vegetation enhancement. |

| Clark County Wetland Pond: Nevada Division of Environmental Protection grant for education, kiosk and pond development at the Nature Center. |

| Entrance to the Wetlands Park Project: A grant for landscaping and interpretive sign at the entrance to the Wetlands Interpretive Area. |

| Wetlands Park Mesquite Woodland and Riparian Habitat: The Natural Resources Conservation Service is providing technical support and funding to reestablish a mesquite grove in the Nature Center area. Funds will be used to remove tamarisk, plant mesquite, and along the streams, plant cottonwood and willow. |

| Wetlands Park Riparian and Wetland Habitat: The Clark County Multiple Species Conservation Program has awarded the Wetlands Park funds to establish wetlands and riparian woodland wildlife habitat. |

| Wetlands Park Vector Control/Mosquito Abatement Plan: Applied Research Initiative Grant to develop a mosquito abatement plan for the Wetlands Park. |

| Nature Center Trails: This grant is intended to develop trails within the Wetlands Park. |
|
| Wetlands Park Interpretive Plan: The National Park Service's Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program selected the Wetlands Park to provide services in the development of a Park wide interpretive plan and a trails plan. |

| Wetlands Park Land Acquisition: The County has applied for funds generated from the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act for land acquisitions in the Wetlands Park. Funds have been approved and are being processed through the Bureau of Land Management. |

| Las Vegas Watershed Weed Control Project: The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has provided funding for the removal of invasive and noxious plants along the Las Vegas Wash. This project will promote awareness of weeds among the landowners and land managers within the hydrographic basin, facilitate cooperation and collaboration for weed strategies, and implement on the ground weed management activities. | Potential Partners include:

| Wetlands and Riparian Revegetation: NV Division of Environmental Protection grant for restoring native vegetation. |

| Plant Nurseries: Funding provided by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for the establishment of local nurseries for the propagation of locally derived plant species. |

| Wetlands Enhancement and Bank Stabilization: The Land and Water Conservation Fund is funding efforts to restore and enhance the wetlands and support bank stabilization activities in the Las Vegas Wash. |
