Las Vegas Wash & Wetlands
Cleanup Draws 2000 Volunteers

Approximately 2,000 Las Vegas Valley residents turned out April 8, 2000 for the Las Vegas Wash & Wetlands Cleanup, spending a spring morning removing approximately 175 tons of trash from the environmentally sensitive area.

The third annual event was sponsored by Friends of the Desert Wetlands Park, Clark County Parks & Recreation and the Las Vegas Wash Coordination Committee (LV WCC). This year's efforts, combined with the previous two cleanup events, have eliminated much of the pollution from the area surrounding the wash.

"The Las Vegas Wash is cleaner than it has been in a long time," said Kim Zikmund, project manager for the Las Vegas Wash Project Team, a group formed to support the ongoing efforts of the LVWCC to implement a comprehensive plan for the Las Vegas Wash.
