What can I do to help? Pollution prevention
Use Environmentally Friendly Products

You can help the Las Vegas Wash just by using "environmentally friendly" products, such as organic fertilizer. Using these products in place of their more traditional counterparts, causes fewer contaminants to enter the wastewater treatment system and thus Las Vegas Wash and Lake Mead. This not only helps protect water quality, but also helps protect the habitat of the hundreds of species of plants and animals that call the Wash home.

Some examples of "environmentally friendly" products are:

Paints and automotive products low in volatile organic compounds
Biodegradable soaps with no phosphates
Organic/Compost fertilizer
Front loading washing machines (use significantly less water)

Washing your car at a car wash instead of in the street or in your driveway - Car washes use oil and sand receptors and discharge their water into the wastewater treatment system so that it can be treated before entering Las Vegas Wash.

For more information on "safe products" go to www.epa.gov/opptintr/epp/.
