Current Revegetation Activities

Revegetation is a key issue for restoring and enhancing the Las Vegas Wash. Since the 1970's wetland vegetation has decreased tenfold partly due to increased urbanization and severe flooding. As erosion control structures are built to stabilize the channel, land that is adjacent to these structures is revegetated with plants that are native to Mojave Desert riparian ecosystems. As of March of 2008, 181 acres of land have been revegetated in the Las Vegas Wash. While most of the revegetation was done for mitigation purposes, additional areas are revegetated using funds from the Clark County’s Multi-Species Habitat Conservation Plan, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, the Nevada Division of State Parks and the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act. Images of the areas that have been revegetated are below.
