The purpose of channel bank protection is to reduce the ability of Wash flows to erode, undercut, and collapse channel banks. Capital expenditures for channel bank protection will include installation of rock riprap and revegetation of stream banks.

As of January 2006, over 22,300 linear feet (4.22 miles) of bank had been protected with rock riprap (see map below). Bank protection is currently performed along the Wash as needed. Eventually (over the next 10-20 years), there will be bank protection from one end of the Wash to the other.
